We teach botanical design as a meeting of the plant world and the human world. What can botanical materials express? How do they relate to people, place and occasion? These questions guide our studio practice and how we teach.

Our programmes bring you into the ideas and materials we’re working with now. We teach an approach rather than a prescribed style, helping you understand your choices and make work with intention.

Learning happens through demonstrations, discussion, field study, making and critique. Small groups allow us to give each participant close attention. Some programmes establish foundations; others push a personal response or offer focused time to practise.

We welcome curious beginners, enthusiasts and practising designers. Each programme listing sets out any recommended experience.

DESIGNING WITH PLANTS AND FLOWERS

Our signature course introduces the foundations of botanical design and how we approach it at THH.

Over three days, we explore the relationships between botanical materials, people and context, and how to design with these in mind. Field study, demonstrations, discussion and practical exercises connect those ideas to the decisions you make.

You’ll work individually and collaboratively across different scales, culminating in a shared tablescape and meal.

Best suited for: Creatives, design professionals and serious enthusiasts. No professional floral experience required.

THEMATIC WORKSHOPS

An intensive exploration of a theme and what you bring to it.

Each workshop begins with a particular question, place or area of practice. The theme provides a shared starting point; your observations, experiences and interests shape your response.

Through research, experimentation and critique, we push beyond first ideas to develop work with a clear point of view. Depending on the programme, local landscapes, culture and materials become part of that process, alongside contributions from guest practitioners and partners.

WORKING SESSIONS WITH THH

Focused making, with time to return and practise again.

Held weekly over three consecutive weeks, Working Sessions build fluency through repeated work with botanical materials. Each 150-minute session begins with a short lecture or demonstration and an introduction to the materials, followed by individual making with guidance from our designers and group critique.

You return each week with something to build on: a choice to reconsider, a technique to refine or an idea to test.

WORKING WEEKENDS WITH THH

The focused practice of Working Sessions, brought together over a weekend.

Four sessions across two days give you concentrated time at the worktable, moving from individual vessels to tablescapes. Demonstrations, guided making and critique help you apply what you learn from one session to the next.

Designed for those travelling to Singapore or unable to attend weekly sessions, this format offers the same attention to practice in a shorter span of time.
